Interview with Joey Partridge

Lucy Tulugarjuk interviews Joey Partridge, alias Juurini. LIVE on October 28, 2020.

Saimanirmut means “A journey to peace” in Inuktitut, because sometimes when we go back to your childhood, we see the joys of friendship, joys of memories, joys of our happiness. Joey Partridge, alias Juurini, is mixing in a very unique way the traditional sounds, the qilautik drum and throat singing from artists Beatrice Deer (Best folk album at Indigenous Music Awards 2019) and Pauyungie Nutaraaluk, to the sound of Pop, Folk and Rock from producer Simon Walls (Claude McKenzie, Le Winston Band, MIELS, Tarwa N-Tiniri, ILAM).

After the success of his first single Saimaniq playing in all northern communities at least 4 times a day, and his song Siqinniapik that went #1 on the prestigious Indigenous Music Countdown, Juurini comes back with an EP filled with emotions, skillfully mixing the northern traditions to today’s music taste with his soulful voice to the sound of the inuktitut.
