Welcome To Our Qammaq - Siqinnaarut, Return of the Sun

In this episode of Welcome to Our Qammaq, our first live show of 2025, host Marcy Siakuluk welcomes elder Yvonne Kadlutsiak to discuss the lighting of the qullik to mark the start of the year. We’ll also feature a short clip from Igloolik during the lightest part of the day, just before the sun returns.

Next, there will be a live drum-making demonstration, followed by a clip showing how the wood is prepared and bent to create the circular drum frames.

Our councillor, Celestino Uyarak, a member of the Igloolik Wellness Committee, will speak about the celebrations marking the return of the sun, along with Elders sharing their thoughts on this important event.
